Chelsea (4-3-3): Caballero; Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso; Jorginho, Kante, Barkley; Willian, Hazard, Higuain
Man City (4-3-3): Muric; Walker, Kompany, Laporte, Zinchenko; Fernandinho, De Bruyne, B. Silva, Sane, Sterling, Aguero
It’s hard to recall a cup final where two teams have gone into it such contrasting form.
Unfortunately you have to start with Chelsea. At time of writing Sarri is, and will be the manager for this game. The crowd response to him on Monday against United in the cup was brutal. But in a world where clubs sack managers for fun, it does seem that Sarri really isn’t helping himself. The like-for-like subs combined with the failure to adapt regarding the formation, and getting the best of N’Golo Kanté who has to be one of the best defensive midfielders on the planet, doesn’t make much sense to us anyway.
City on the other hand, speak for themselves. The form they are on and the options they currently have with regards to choosing a first eleven is almost embarrassing. They can also take great momentum into this game by the way they won at Schalke in midweek; late on with 10 men whilst not at their best for long periods.
This won’t be a repeat of the 6-0 from a fortnight ago, and we certainly don’t think Chelsea players have stopped playing for their manager. But all that said, we just can’t see beyond City for this.
Result prediction: Man City win (Get enhanced odds of 7/1 with 888 Sport)
Correct score prediction: 2-0 (Best odds: 7/1 with Novibet)
Bonus bet tip: Leroy Sane to score anytime and Man City to win – Sane appears to be playing every other game at the moment which indicates he should start this game, especially giving the impact he made on Wednesday night. He has scored 13 goals this season with one every 144 minutes. He’s also scored in some big games already lately, including the winner in the top of the table clash against Liverpool last month. He has scored in his last two games. (Best odds: 4/1 with BoyleSports)
Premier League: Preview, predictions and betting tips
Man United v Liverpool
Kick-off: 2:05pm (GMT) Sunday 24 February 2019
Where to watch live on TV in the UK: Sky Sports Premier League / Sky Sports Main Event / Sky Sports Ultra HD
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester
Man United (4-3-3): De Gea, Young, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw, Ander Herrera, Matic, Mata, Pogba, Lukaku, Rashford
Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Mane, Firmino
Firstly, it goes some way to explain the passionate hatred between these two teams that in a recent poll the majority of United fans said they would rather Man City win the quadruple than Liverpool win the league.
The one issue for us regarding United in this game is the fans though. Under Solskjær, United have won 7 out of 7 away from home, and anyone who saw their fans at Stamford Bridge on Monday night would have a hard time arguing their noise and passion is not up their with the very best fan base.
However, Old Trafford is a very different animal. Over the last 5 or 6 years United have struggled at home, and it’s no longer the fortress it was We think the fans have played a part in that as well as the previous managers.
Considering the run United were on going into what was a massive European night against PSG, we honestly couldn’t believe how flat the atmosphere was throughout, well, before PSG had taken control of the game.
We think Liverpool can exploit this with their counter-attacking style. They will have Van Dijk back from suspension and if United are without both Martial and Lingard, they don’t have the pace to trouble them.
We can see Liverpool controlling the game for the first 10 minutes and taking it from there.
Result prediction: Liverpool win (Get enhanced odds of 11/1 with 888 Sport)
Correct score prediction: 0-2 (Best odds: 12/1 with Sportingbet)
Bonus bet tip: Under 2.5 goals – We don’t think this will be a cagey game particularly, but defensively, United have improved massively lately, and as mentioned above we think Liverpool will be looking to control and dictate the fixture playing largely on the counter. In Liverpool’s last four games, there have only been seven goals. In United’s last four games, only eight goals. (Best odds: 21/20 with 888 Sport)
